Pepe
About Pepe
Pepe is a meme-themed cryptocurrency issued as an ERC-20 token on the Ethereum network. The project takes its name and visual identity from the Pepe the Frog internet meme, and is positioned alongside earlier meme tokens such as Dogecoin and Shiba Inu within the broader category of community-driven, culturally referential crypto assets.
The token contract was deployed without a presale, with the entire supply made available at launch to the open market through public liquidity pools. The deployer renounced administrative control of the contract after launch and the corresponding liquidity pool tokens were burned, removing the ability of any single party to modify token parameters, mint new supply or withdraw the underlying liquidity. The contract carries no transaction tax, distinguishing it from many earlier meme tokens that routed a portion of trades to development or marketing wallets.
Pepe has no formal product roadmap, treasury or development team in the conventional sense. Activity around the token is coordinated through online communities, social media and decentralized exchange volume rather than through a centralized organization or governance forum.
Within the broader crypto landscape, Pepe sits squarely in the meme-coin category, where cultural attention, online communities and exchange listings are the primary drivers of relevance rather than underlying technology or protocol-level utility.
Why Pepe Matters
Meme coins are cryptocurrencies whose identity is built around internet culture, online communities and viral attention rather than technical innovation or protocol utility. As a category, they are characterized by community-led coordination, broad token distribution and high sensitivity to social-media activity.
