Kalshi has a new ambition: perpetual futures for commodities.
What’s happening:
- Kalshi has officially filed with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission to offer perpetual futures on gold, silver and platinum directly on their prediction markets platform
Why it matters:
- This is the first time ever that Kalshi has sought regulatory approval to be able to offer perpetual futures for commodities and enable their users to trade gold, silver and platinum with no-expiration, cash-settled contracts
Going deeper:
- Kalshi has been aggressively integrating their event contracts into trading platforms lately, including forming a partnership with Canadian brokerage Wealthsimple to launch a new prediction markets app and rolling out their prediction markets to Interactive Brokers' (NASDAQ: IBKR) users
- Coinbase (NASDAQ: COIN) just recently made waves when they rolled out pre-IPO perpetual futures and made SpaceX (NASDAQ: SPCX) available for trading prior to their listing on the Nasdaq
The fine print:
- The Commodity Futures Trading Commission will ultimate have to approve Kalshi’s filing before they can launch perpetual futures for commodities in the United States
