Samsung is getting serious about the future of robotics. But, why?
What’s happening:
- Samsung has publicly stated they have launched a new dedicated robotics unit to consolidate robotics research and development, product planning and hardware and software development
Why it matters:
- This is the first time ever that Samsung has combined most of their robotics research and development and commercialization efforts into one dedicated office
Going deeper:
- Samsung plans to begin ramping up their strategic investments into robotics companies as well as pursuing potential acquisitions as part of their new robotics unit
- Samsung has also publicly stated they plan to deploy humanoid robots for semiconductor, smartphone and home-appliance production
The intrigue:
- Mitsubishi Motors just recently made major waves when they partnered with Japanese startup Highlanders to accelerate the mass production of robots to be used in automobile manufacturing facilities
