Kaspa
About Kaspa
Kaspa (KAS) is an open-source, decentralised Layer 1 network built around the GHOSTDAG consensus protocol, an extension of Bitcoin's proof-of-work design that allows multiple blocks to be created in parallel rather than discarded as orphans. This block-directed acyclic graph (BlockDAG) structure enables high block rates without sacrificing security guarantees.
The network targets one-second block intervals, with a roadmap that aims to push block production rates higher over time. Because GHOSTDAG accepts and orders parallel blocks instead of selecting a single chain tip, throughput scales with hardware and network capacity rather than being constrained by the conservative pacing required of traditional longest-chain protocols. Transactions confirm quickly while remaining secured by proof-of-work mining.
Kaspa is community driven and follows a fair-launch distribution model — there was no premine, initial coin offering or allocation to insiders. The supply schedule follows a smooth, predictable emissions curve. Within the broader landscape, Kaspa sits among proof-of-work networks experimenting with structures beyond the linear chain, aiming to combine the security model that secures Bitcoin with substantially higher throughput.
Why Kaspa Matters
Proof-of-work networks continue to evolve through new consensus designs that increase throughput and reduce confirmation times while preserving the open, energy-secured trust model that defines the category. Kaspa sits within this segment with its BlockDAG architecture and fair-launch distribution. Readers tracking how proof-of-work networks compete and adapt can explore broader trends across crypto and Web3.
