Clever Carnivore Raises Cash For Cell Cultivated Meat Production

Cellular agriculture was once seen as a far fetched science experiment. But now, cruelty free meat is getting closer than ever to being embraced by the masses.

  • Chicago based biotechnology company Clever Carnivore has raised $7 million in a seed round
  • The round was led by prolific alternative protein venture fund Lever VC and included other notable investors such as McWin Capital Partners, Valo Ventures, Newfund Capital and Stray Dog Capital

  • Clever Carnivore leverages biotechnology to produce cell cultivated chicken, beef and pork for human consumption
  • By producing genuine animal meat through cellular agriculture, Clever Carnivore is aiming to invent new types of sausages and burgers that don’t rely on any animal agriculture

The intrigue:

  • Clever Carnivore is co founded by Paul Burridge, a professor at Northwestern University and widely considered one of the foremost leading minds in cellular agriculture

By the numbers:

  • Since inception Clever Carnivore has raised $9.1M USD in venture capital funding
  • Clever Carnivore plans to expand into a new facility that will host 500 litre bioreactors and enable them to enter into full scale production
